- [Properties]
-
- Pure erbium is soft and malleable. It has a silvery metallic luster that
- tarnishes only slightly in air. It is a member of the lanthanide group of
- elements that fit onto the periodic chart between lantanum (element 57)
- and hafnium (element 72).
- Erbium has unusual magnetic properties, including the fact that it is
- antiferromagnetic across a fairly wide range of low temperatures. It
- becomes superconductive at very low temperatures.
